Re: what replacement tuners will fit my PDF?
You don't need staggered ones because the headstock tilts back at an angle. Traditional inline headstocks (Fender) didn't, and "3 on a side" (Gibson) did, so you often hear that inline headstocks need staggered tuners. Modern guitars needn't follow these conventions. So, get non-staggered ...

Re: Help Identifying this model
Though this isn't right in any case, a retail store which failed to do its diligence in recognizing what is essentially a fraudulently misrepresented counterfeit finding itself the speculator left holding the hot potato still feels less cruel to behold than if it was a naive individual believing th...

Re: PDF 105, No Piezo & Non-Veneer Black?
Yeah; it can be difficult to tell. Basswood is usually lighter, but sometimes they're close. Basswood is softer, too - if you want to stick a thin rod in a screw hole somewhere, but that's slightly destructive. The color codes for the black are different as well, but I'm not sure what you have. I th...

Re: PDF 105, No Piezo & Non-Veneer Black?
A PDF105 without piezo is a PDF100. Without quilted/flamed veneer it's a PDF70. Unless it has Sperzel locking tuners and Duncan pickups; then it's some kind of mutt.

Re: PDF60TWH Tremolo/Vibrato Arm
Just a thought - it's a plain, unthreaded arm, so if you can't find an official one, a generic one of the correct diameter could work.
It's 4.75 mm or 3/16 in.

Re: Help Identifying this model
I think it's closest to an imported PDF85 with a custom paint job and aftermarket Fluence pups installed. Originally sold for about $800, IIRC. Similar to a USA DF622, but: The tuning keys are imports, not Sperzels (of course, they could be non-original) The neck bolt pattern looks like the import v...

Re: Dragon Fly Wiring Please
Just a nitpick: the gloss versions were named DF624. Same guitar, gloss finish vs. matte on the DF524. Then the DF724 had flame maple veneers.
Nice guitar.
Nice guitar.

Re: DragonFly/MaxxFly vs NiteFly SA for SuperStrat?
The DF824 is the only Maxxfly with the carbon wrap and glued on frets, IIRC. The lower lines are bolt on models with ebony fretboards and tanged frets. There's a 7 string Maxxfly model with the carbon, and a couple signature models, but they're pretty rare. The DF824 is lighter and sleeker than a Ni...

Re: Nitefly vs Dragon/Maxxfly? Please Help Me Decide.
The basics: The Nitefly has an exoskeleton-wrapped neck (though generally a little thicker than the Fly Deluxe neck) bolted to a conventional body. The body's kinda fly shaped, but without all the contours that make the fly so light and ergonomic. The DF524 (also the DF624 and DF724) is a convention...

Re: Fly weight?
Outliers are out there: ... Anecdotally, many of the listings I've seen for Graphtech/Duncan-era 2014 and '15 DF842 and Fly models have spec'd 7.0 lbs (which lead me to pass them over). Wow. I sit corrected. I get that the later ones had thicker bodies to allow standard pups, but 7 lbs for a Parker...

I also suspect the scale. Even my maple necked Bolt on with a Floyd is only 6.25 lbs. No way a Mojo is 7.

That sure was a looker! I wonder how many were ever made? Here's a gorgeous maple fretboard one from Reverb. I'm partial to ebony, but that birdseye is beautiful!

Re: PDF-100 Fret material question
mmm is correct. No imported (PDF) models had stainless frets. Within the USA-made DF line (Dragonfly/Maxxfly), the DF8xx models had carbon wrap and glued SS frets. The DF4xx had tanged SS frets on a rosewood board, and DF5xx, DF6xx, and DF7xx had tanged SS frets on ebony. I'd think these number conv...

Re: Artist or PRS Hollowbody?
Other than my MaxxFly guitars, my fave player is a Cort M800 - similar to the PRS hollowbody (I think it wa Cort's attempt at a copy before PRS contracted them to build the PRS import versions). Very different beasts - and I think that's why I like it, for the variety. I also love the responsive, wo...

Re: Half tempted to buy this knock off parker
If the silhouette of the Fly body is what attracts you, go for it. But it looks like that has little of what makes a Parker a Parker, and everything I don't like about the Fly. The body is the rough shape, but without the extensive routing for comfort and weight relief. The headstock looks like it w...

I'm pretty sure it's a 3/16" allen wrench. Most of my other brands use metric, but these are odd.

Re: Stupid question about Dragonfly/Maxxfly tuners
I've had good experience with Sperzel. You can order all manner of color & part combinations. I ordered an "all tall post" set to minimize breakover angle on a Cort that I added a trem to. Easy peasy. I tend to get Hipshots more often these days, but Sperzels are great too - and the op...

Re: Why aren't Ken Parker's innovations being used today?
This is basically the USA-made bolt-on MaxxFly guitars - DF524, 624, 724. I’m not familiar with those models, so I think I need to educate myself (V.J. said to himself sneakily in order to justify his compulsive guitar-buying/trying). 🙂 Like all else Parker, they're getting hard to find. I have one...

Re: Why aren't Ken Parker's innovations being used today?
Essentially, you’d need a “Fly Lite” model that removed many of the “impossible-ness” features—that would make it easy to make, but maybe not as desirable to own or play as an OG Fly. This is basically the USA-made bolt-on MaxxFly guitars - DF524, 624, 724. They're my favorite guitars of all time, ...
